Astronomy Day
Saturday, April 24, 2010 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM

FREE TO THE PUBLIC

Land Between The Lakes Golden Pond Visitor Center / Observatory

What exactly is Astronomy Day?

To quote David H. Levy:

"One day each spring, astronomy clubs, planetariums, and other groups of sky lovers band together to show the public how much fun astronomy can be. "To promote the forerunner of all scientific endeavors and to provide information, resources, and encouragement in all facets of astronomy" is the official reading, but showing that astronomy is fun is really what it's all about. "Taking astronomy to the people," "Astronomy is fun!," "Watch the sky," and "Look up!" are all slogans that have been used successfully on Astronomy Day"

Come join us as we take astronomy to the people. The Golden Pond Planetarium will have shows free to the public all day Astronomy Day. The planetarium has a new all digital system and it should be something to behold. The show schedule for 2010 is:

  • 10am   SHOW: Far Out Space Places
  • 11am   SHOW: Two Small Pieces of Glass
  • 12pm   TALK: Getting Started in Astronomy - Ross Workman
  •  1 pm   SHOW: The Skies Above
  •  2 pm   SHOW: Journey to the Edge of Space & Time
  •  3 pm   SHOW: Blown Away: The Wild World of Weather
  • Ky Skies: Look at the night sky and learn the constellations, the lore of the night sky, and some celestial events you can see for yourself

We plan to have some telescopes set up in the visitor center as well as out back for solar observing, weather permitting. Come one and all. And bring a friend.

See you there!
